Bachelor's program in Surgical Technology
Overview
Surgical technologist, also called operating room technician, work alongside and assist surgeons, nurses, and other members of the health care team throughout a surgical operation. The role of the surgical technologist is incredibly important because they ensure a sterile and organized environment.
History
Bachelor's program in surgical technology is offered by the faculty of Allied Medical sciences. The surgical technologist training program was first established in 1995 as an associated degree in surgical technology. It was first the faculty of Allied Medicine to recognize the importance of baccalaureate education in surgical technology and become the pioneer in the transition in the surgical technology education program by upgrading its education from an associated degree to a graduate program, bachelor of surgical technologist in Ilam University of Medical Sciences.
Currently (June 2021) there are 101 registered students, namely the students of continuous undergraduate program (4-year bachelor, N= 87) and the students of discontinuous undergraduate program (2-year associated degree + 2-year bachelor, N= 14), studies in the field of surgical technologist in the faculty of Allied Medical Sciences.
Our faculty admits students in two different program types including the bachelor of surgical technology(continuous and non-continuous).
Please be noted that those who have an associated degree in surgical technology are eligible to apply for a non-continuous bachelor of surgical technology.
